The strength of any building is its foundation. In fact a foundation determines the strength, height and design of a building. The truth of the matter is that when we look at a building we rarely consider the foundation; we look at the design and are mesmerized. We look at the windows and glasses and are struck with awe. When we see the interiors we are captivate by its beauty. This is the layman’s point of view but the builder’s point of view is absolutely different.
Marriage is like a building and if you want to have a successful marriage you need to approach it like a building; and the first thing you will need to consider is what kind of foundation you what to lay for your marriage. The foundation of any marriage begins at courtship so when the couples intending to get married spend time together in getting to know each other. The success of any marriage therefore will largely depend on how well the couple will handle their courtship.
Let me show you some important things any couple needs to know in courtship. I know you have heard of the saying “ignorance is not bliss” that’s very true in marriage. On several occasions I have had married persons come to me saying something like, my husband is not the same man I got married to, he has changed a great deal. I have come to learn the reason is because most of the couples don’t open up to each other during courtship. So they begin marriage as total strangers to each other.
